For a really delightful and relaxing walking or cycling trip, there's nothing better than the "baraggia": an unusual setting with a characteristically very arid soil and vegetation composed of heather and grasses. It is such a particular environment that it deserves protection: for this reason the Oriented Nature Reserve of the Baragge has been set up and Rovasenda is part of this reserve. Beside the Alps, the hills, the woods and the "chequered sea", the province of Vercelli can offer yet another, completely different, landscape: the baraggia, a flat area, slightly higher than the plain below, characterised by particularly arid soil and, inevitably, vegetation consisting mainly of heather and grasses. The baraggia of Rovasenda, set in the Oriented Nature Reserve of the Baragge, is ideal for pleasantly relaxing walks and cycling trips.

Itinerary: starting from the Municipal Square of Rovasenda, follow the road for Cossato and after about 1 km turn right for Roasio. After a few kilometres on a surfaced road, you come to the Biella-Gattinara state road, which you must follow, turning right towards Gattinara. When you come to the junction on the left for S. Maria, turn right into a road which soon becomes a dirt track. For those who want to avoid the traffic, 7 kilometres from the starting point it is possible to take a dirt track on the right (follow the signs for the game reserve);bearing right and crossing a small ford over the Rovasenda Torrent, you will rejoin the main itinerary, which continues along a dirt track: passing a junction on the left which leads to Cascina Biellese and continuing straight ahead you will leave the wood and enter the baraggia, crossed by numerous paths. Proceed in the same direction until you come to another environment, that of the paddy field. At the first junction, instead of taking the main road which turns left, keep travelling almost straight ahead to the next junction, and then take the road the winds through the paddy fields and leads to Cascina S. Benedetto, situated on the road that links Gattinara to Rovasenda. Turning right and heading along this road for about 2 Km towards Rovasenda you will come back to the starting point.
