Scopello - Alpe di Mera - Monterosa Ski District

Alpe di Mera, skiing area centrally located in the Valsesia and built in the 1950s, is a splendid ski resort for those keen on skiing and thanks to its favourable position, it always tends to have an excellent level of natural snow-cover, in spite of its relatively low altitude. However, the resort is equipe with snow cannons able to completely cover the slopes guaranteeing the possibility of skiing even in periods of little snow. Even Mera got caught up in the great festivities of the 2006 Olympic Games that involved all of the skiing areas in the Piedmont region, by offering to the world a completely new look that at the same time has been able to conserve the natural characteristics, including its splendour and uniqueness. The Alpe di Mera does not only overlook the valley with its amazing view, like no other in the Valsesia, but it permits its visitors to admire all of Monte Rosa's massive majesty. The ski runs range from an altitude of 600 meters at the base (leaving from the chair-lift that comes up from Scopello) to 1,800 metres at the Camparient Summit.

The village centre is situated at approximately 1.500 metres and has a wonderful characteristic: no cars are permitted. The car park located at the Trogo Alpe makes it possible for skiers to get out of their cars and immediately put on their skis and boots. It is possible to reach all the Alpe has to offer on one's own skis: ski school, bars, lodges, restaurants, hotels, and stores. The slopes were moulded on soft ridges, making the resort suitable for all, from beginners to export skiers and in particular for families thanks to the "Kinder Park". To the delight of snowboarders and freestylers, visit the Nobili Snow Park equipped boxes, rails, jib features, jumps and pro-jumps, which guarantees an intense and adrenaline-filled experience. The park makes its own snow, covers an area of about 400 meters and is served by the "Campo" ski-lift. Some tapis roulant allow the young ones to try skiing for the first time and the school ski offers all kinds of lessons (like snowboarding, alpine skiing and telemarking). When all of the lifts are running, up to 30 kilometres of groomed slopes are available, as well as having the opportunity of downhill skiing in fresh snow and in a completely safe environment and without any risks of avalanches.

But Mera can also be reached without skis, with the comfortable chair-lift that goes directly to Scopello, simply makes it possible to enjoy the splendid sun or a typical lunch in one of the numerous and welcoming openair establishments not only in winter, but year-round.
