Monte Fenera natural park

Monte Fenera natural park

The Towns of Valduggia and Borgosesia are a part of the territory of the Monte Fenera Natural Park , a protected area that extends even into the province of Novara . The limestone overhanging walls characterizes this isolated spur at the "doors” of Borgosesia. Important from the geologic, archaeological, botanical and faunal point of view, more than 90% of the park is made up of forests and spontaneous vegetation, in which small villages and houses, scattered with remarkable historical-architectonic value, have perfectly integrated. To emphasize this idea, the "Taragn", rye straw roofed cottages, evidence of an ancient farming civilization and become part of the Ecomuseum of the low Valsesia.

The numerous archaeological find make the Park a reference pole from a paleontological point of view: in fact, its particular geologic conformation has allowed for the reconstruct of the prehistoric Piedmont . The numerous caves have detected unique signs in the Piedmont of the presence of Neanderthal man, who lived in this area about 50,000 years ago and the Bear Cave. The Park is the centre of the national collection of information relative to the rare black stork, which since 1994, nests in this territory; the first nesting documented in Italy.
