From Santa Maria, follow the carriage road leading down to the village of Piana and then, past the houses of Catognetto, take the road up to the village of Belvedere (1,208 m) passing through the villages of Riva, Campelli and Costa. From Belvedere, a good mule trail, no. 525, and moderately steep, heads up to La Res (1,419 m). Here, take trail no. 538 and with a slight climb to the Colle della Dorchetta, then take the path with little slope heading to the side of Rimella. This route passes through a forest of tall trees, crosses two streams and, with a more pronounced slope, passes a chapel and then arrives in Alpe Roncaccio (1,179 m). With an almost flat trail, you can reach the church of Roncaccio (1,124 m) and with a steep drop, the Landwasser stream where you cross over a stone bridge to go back to the opposite side and meet the chapel of S. Rocco (1,063 m). Going down the valley, the mule trail ends up on the road to Rimella (1,176 m).
