Fobello – Permanent Exhibition of Puncetto

Museums

ZonaHigh Valsesia

Puncetto is one of the most typical forms of craft in Valsesia: it is seen here displayed in all its glory and simple elegance, along with a splendid collection of costumes from Val Mastallone.

The tradition for puncetto dates back to ancient times and a less refined technique was possibly in use at the beginning of the 10 th century. Over the centuries it was refined and in the 16 th century was probably a symbol of precious harmony: witness to this fact is borne by Gaudenzio Ferrari, who used puncetto to adorn the clothing worn by the Madonna in his works, as seen in the Madonna di Brera (1518) and in the Polyptych of Varallo (1518).
