From the railway station of Vercelli follow the cycle tracks to Corso Italia up to Rione Cappuccini, continue towards Prarolo along the bank of river Sesia, among poplar groves and paddy fields. At the fork in the road, take the route to Palestro to reach the renown "chiuse” (sluices), a series of river drops covering a 10 m height. After the hamlet of Pizzarrosto, continue up to the built-up area of Pezzana. Go beyond Tenuta Valgioja and Cascina Bellincontro to reach Caresana, famous for the centenarian tradition of the "Corsa dei Buoi” (Ox Race) shared with the neighbouring commune of Asigliano. Worth mentioning is also the majestic parish church of Saint Matthew and the Church of Saint George with the chapel of the SS. Annunziata. On the way back to Pezzana, is Prarolo, seat of one of the best-preserved castles of the Vercellese area, dating back to the end of the XIV century. Here the public fountain, also known as "chita mai” (never stops), entertains visitors with its unceasing jets. On the way back to Vercelli, ride along the cycle tracks up to the starting point.
