The racing of the oxen in Asigliano Vercellese

The oxen race of Asigliano Vercellese has its origins in 1436, when the inhabitants of the town hit by the plague, asked for the grace of San Vittore, the saint of the city, promising to let the slower animals run, the oxen, as a sign of gratitude. The plague ceased and from that moment on, the second Sunday of May, the Asiglianese people, as usual, renew the vow to the saint with the race.
The first historical document that recalls  the racing of the oxen dates back to 1658.
